Ada beberapa persyaratan yang harus dipenuhi sebelum instalasi WSUS:
· Windows 2000 Server atau Windows Server 2003.
· Minimal IIS 5.0.
· Windows SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (WMSDE) jika klien di bawah 500.
· Microsoft SQL Server 2000 jika klien lebih dari 500.
· Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0.
· Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.
· Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 or later.
· Download file instalasi WSUS.
Ikuti langkah-langkah berikut untuk menjalankan instalasi WSUS (dengan asumsi IIS sudah diinstal):
1. Jalankan file instalasi WSUS.
2. Klik Next untuk melanjutkan Microsoft Windows Server Update Services Setup Wizard.
3. Klik I accept the terms of the License agreement kemudian klik Next.
4. Pilih Store updates locally, tentukan lokasi folder untuk WSUS, kemudian klik Next.
5. Klik Next untuk menerima seting default Install SQL Server desktop engine (Windows) on this computer.
6. Pilih Use the existing IIS Default Web site (recommended), kemudian klik Next. 7. Pilih Next untuk membuat WSUS standalone. Untuk membuat Mirrored WSUS Server, klik pada This server should inherit the settings from the following server. 8. Klik Next dua kali. Instalasi WSUS dijalankan.
9. Klik Finish.
Untuk konfigurasi automatic updates yang ada di komputer klien, gunakan group policy.
