HINTS and TIPS for UM / OCS

Actually I have published the Bahasa Indonesia version in the Download section of this community server, so if you prefer Indonesian you can check it in here.

For those of you that found English is more suits you, please check these hints and tips below.

HINTS and TIPS for UM / OCS

1. No answer to telephone calls

  • First test Gateway to PBX using test tools
  • Then test Gateway to UM/OCS using test tools
  • Then use tracing to isolate problem

2. One way Audio

  • IP path, check for Firewalls or NAT between Gateway and UM Server

3. All calls go to AutoAttendant

  • No redirected number being passed to UM Server
    • Run traces on Gateway to locate problem

4. Poor audio quality

  • IP path issue or configuration problem
  • Ethernet ports on Gateway not configured correctly for LAN

5. If remote sites

  • For UM, position the UM Server close to other Exchange servers so that the Gateways are doing the long distance connections
  • For OCS, keep the Mediations servers close to the gateways so the longest hop should be between the Mediation server and the OCS Front end servers.
That way you have encrypted communications over long hops and the advantage of RT Audio quality over poorer links.

6. Unable to call from OCS clients or calls from PBX not delivered to OCS client

  • Use Routehelper to check route is valid
  • Use gateway diagnostic to check call flow to OCS, use OCS logging tool to check call flow within OCS processes
  • In the OCS logging tool, select the SIPStack option to see the call flow
    • In OCS logging, look for the message after the Invite, if it is a 'call from unauthorized source etc' then check certificates and other front end
      configuration elements
    • 480 Temporarily Unavailable usually means that a user with that number was not found in the Contacts. Check that the called number has been
      normalized as expected.

That's all folks, hope it useful.

Best Regards,

Arfan Arlanda
