You (IT Pros) must at least have heard or read about VOIP/SIP Media Gateway, rite?
In brief, we need VOIP/SIP Media Gateway in implementing OCS if we want to have the telephony feature, and also if the existing PBX we used were not an IP PBX.
The main function of VOIP/SIP media gateway, basically is to translate the IP-based packets to the circuit-based (PBX), and vice versa. It also has a routing table and manipulation table (for phone numbers).
To implement Microsoft Unified Communications, there already some qualified media gateways (Microsoft tested); the list of qualified gateways for OCS 2007 can be found in here, and for Exchange UM can be found here.
Okay, this time I want to share about updating the firmware of AudioCodes Media Gateway; one of the qualified gateway that often been used.
I used the AudioCodes MP-114, an analog media gateway with 2 FXS and 2 FXO ports. There is another AudioCodes MP-114 with 4 FXO ports.
(FXS: the interface connect to telephone subscriber, FXO: the interface connect to PSTN)
We can manage this AudioCodes gateway through web console, the Default IP is 10.1.10.10, valid for all AudioCodes gateway. Except for media gateway that only have FXO ports, the default IP is 10.1.10.11.
The Default username: Admin, and password: Admin.
To found out the existing Firmware version that currently installed in the gateway, we can check the configuration file (.ini) through
Click on 'Advanced Configuration' in the main menu (left panel), then click on 'Configuration File', and click the 'Get ini File' button, as shown in the picture below.
Pop-up window will appear for you to choose how to download this configuration file; whether you want to open or save the file.
Open the configuration file, you will find the software version, that will be the firmware version that installed in the media gateway.
ie. Software Version: 5.00A.033.001 (this is the existing firmware version that used in my gateway)
If you want to update the firmware to the newer/latest version, the steps are extremely easy and so intuitive.
1. First, make sure you already backup the existing configuration, use the same method as define above.
2. Then, click on 'Software Update' from main menu, choose 'Software Upgrade Wizard', pop up wizard will appear as shown below
3. Click on 'Start Software Upgrade', pop-up wizard will appear as shown below
Browse the file, select the new firmware file that will be load in the media gateway (I used MP118_SIP_F5.40A.020.005.cmp), click 'Send File'.
After success loading the firmware, click Next.
4. You can load the configuration file that you already saved before, browse the file, click 'Send File'
5. Click Reset.
The configuration will be burned (saved) to memory.
6. Click 'End Process', Done. Media gateway device will be restart automatically.
Then you can try login to the media gateway, you will find the new look of AudioCodes web console, as shown below.

Note: You can change the IP address of media gateway, but make sure the LAN cable is disconnected.

Nah, kali ini saya ingin sharing mengenai update firmware di salah satu VOIP gateway yang cukup sering digunakan, yaitu AudioCodes.
VOIP gateway yang saya gunakan adalah AudioCodes MP-114, yang merupakan media gateway analog dengan 2 port FXS dan 2 port FXO. Ada juga sih yang semua port nya FXO.
(FXS: Interface yang terhubung ke telephone subscriber, FXO: Interface yang terhubung ke PSTN).
Kita dapat memanage VOIP gateway ini melalui web console, IP default nya adalah 10.1.10.10 , ini berlaku untuk semua AudioCodes gateway. Kecuali yang semua port nya FXO, IP defaultnya adalah 10.1.10.11.

Untuk mengetahui versi Firmware yang saat ini terinstall di gateway, kita dapat melihat dari konfigurasi file (.ini) dengan cara
Klik 'Advanced Configuration' di main menu (sebelah kiri), kemudian klik 'Configuration File', dan klik tombol 'Get ini File', seperti pada gambar dibawah ini.
Akan muncul pilihan untuk menyimpan/membuka file konfigurasi.
Buka file konfigurasi tersebut, anda akan menemukan software version, itulah versi firmware yang terinstal di media gateway.
Misal; Software Version: 5.00A.033.001 (ini existing firmware pada mediagateway yang saya gunakan)
Nah, jika anda ingin mengupdate firmware ke versi yang lebih baru, langkah-langkahnya sangat mudah sekali
1. Pertama, pastikan anda telah melakukan backup konfigurasi, caranya sama dengan langkah diatas. (Get ini)
2. Kemudian, klik 'Software Update' dari main menu, pilih 'Software Upgrade Wizard', akan muncul pop up wizard seperti gambar dibawah.
3. Klik 'Start Software Upgrade', akan muncul pop-up wizard seperti dibawah ini
Browse file, cari firmware baru yang akan anda load di media gateway (firmware yang saya gunakan adalah MP118_SIP_F5.40A.020.005.cmp), klik Send File.
Sukses meload firmware, klik Next.
4. Anda dapat meload konfigurasi yang sudah anda simpan sebelumnya, browse file, klik 'Send File'
5. Klik Reset.
Konfigurasi akan di burn (save) ke memory media gateway.
6. Klik 'End Process', Selesai. Device mediagateway akan restart secara otomatis.
Kemudian login kembali ke media gateway, anda akan melihat penampilan baru dari web console media gateway tersebut.

Note: Anda dapat merubah IP Address dari media gateway tersebut, namun pastikan untuk mencabut kabel jaringan saat anda melakukannya.
